Since I decided to live in the Canary Islands I have always tried to get in touch with other artists and illustrators. But the lack of meeting places for artists, universities, cultural centers, combined with the dispersion due to a territory made up of 7 islands, made this search complicated. So I decided to use Instagram as a means to create a virtual community with the hope that it will materialize into a real one in the future. The Canarian was born from this need.

In a very touristy location known for sun, sea and surfing, where people generally come to spend their holidays, new residents also tend to engage in recreational and tourism activities or jobs related to these sectors.
The local community, on the other hand, tends to have a distrustful attitude towards foreigners, accused of neglecting the local culture and occupying vital spaces, taking away the island's resources.
The objective of The Canarian was therefore immediately to raise awareness among tourists and new residents about local traditions and culture, trying to break down the barrier between natives and foreigners. Demonstrating that the Canary Islands are home to people of different nationalities who are equally interested in the cultural heritage of the Canary Islands.

In a short time The Canarian community has grown to thousands of people inside and outside the archipelago. More than 70 artists participated in the project. Catalogs and books have been published. Exhibitions were held in public and private spaces and in a short time The Canarian brand became synonymous with quality and Canarian culture.
